Halloween 2015: Mario Kart Party Photoshoot

This is coming at you about a bajillion times later than I had hoped.
Reason 1: I severely underestimated how many photos I took during the shooting process.
Reason 2: I severely overestimated how much time/energy I had available as well as my proficiency in Photoshop.

Essentially, I bit off way more than I could chew and so here I am posting Halloween photos in December like some crazy person.

But better late than never right? Photos are done at last *weeping tears of joy and relief*

My first two photos came out within the first couple of days.  I was all hyped up and excited with the big (read: overly ambitious) plans I had for the photos, and was still running off the motivation and momentum from the shoot.

Bohemian Autumn & Thanksgiving weekend

Is it just me or was autumn incredibly short this year?  There was a week in September when it was still nice and then BAM it was suddenly ridiculously chilly.  And now it already feels like winter is slowly descending upon us (winter is coming) and boo am I the only one upset that I have this whole autumn section in my closet that is going to have to wait a whole nother year? -super sad panda-

Anyway, it must've been that last nice week in September when I took these photos then, in my boho dress and hat, without the need for a jacket.

I've gotten a surprisingly large number of compliments on this super affordable dress from Forever21 and have gotten quite a few wears out of it already.  It's a great loose style too -- I've already shared it with my pretty mama.

As previously mentioned, I've been working on improving my "phashion fotography" and have been researching ideas by collecting magazines from stores that I frequent, including J Crew and Guess and Kate Spade and IKEA.  That last one might not sound relevant but it totally is and you'll see what I'm talking about in a subsequent blogpost.

Guildwood Park

It can't already be October because I still have so many summer photos to do! [despair emoji here]
Looking through my photos, I think these may be the last set I took in the final days of summer 2015, when my parents took me to Guildwood Park.

They had gone once before without me but mom knowing my love for parks (especially beautiful ones) said we could go again. And so I told her to get dressed up, we'll bring the tripod, and I'll make a photoshoot day out of it.

Flower Power

I've been practicing more fashion photography and creating collages lately and so this post will be composed of three outfits, each highlighting a different floral pattern.

Using my best fashion blogger descriptors, this is what I have in store for y'all:
1) a bold, vibrant statement dress
2) a professional look in a pastel palette with a porcelain vase bottom (lots of p's)
3) a darker transitioning-to-autumn outfit with a flirty top

To start the countdown, here's number three:

sitting around, waiting to put my shoes on
pretending to be all dramatic
how I actually feel: derpy and smiley :)
This is the most recent outfit and I was waiting for this batch to complete my flower power trinity.

Samulnori at Parliament

This might very well be my laziest blog post ever.

While I've been pretty active lately in taking photos, they've sort of just been accumulating in folders on my hard drive. And even when I manage to go through and edit all of them, I somehow run out of energy to do the write up.

Good news: I'm hoping that this photo-heavy post will get the ball rolling in terms of me firing off more blog posts.  The weather is cooling down so I'm thinking I'll have more time spent all cozied up in bed with my laptop + Rocky and focus on photo editing & blog posting.

Hope you enjoy the photos from this event shoot I did with John! (been a long time coming but we are both pretty lazy people)  Don't forget you can always click to enlarge the photos :)

Took this while I was waiting for John to get ready.

And then I got impatient so I took photos of the getting ready process.

Lavender fields & Model Mama

About a month ago, before I was to leave for my trip to China, I had a mini-vacation with my family in Prince Edward Country, which is about an hour west of Kingston.  We planned to visit the aromatic lavender fields, but ran into a sailing team practice on the way, so of course we had to pull over and take photos.

this one's getting framed and going on top of the piano :)
The weather was pretty great, not too hot, but the sky could’ve been more blue and less grey.  We actually missed the prime week for lavender, which was the week before, but it was still very nice and less of a crowd (which I prefer).

Pinup Pt.1 - Sunbathing

It's apparently the hottest week in Toronto, and I have around 1,000+ photos to edit...
Sounds like a good time to do another photoshoot, no?

The pinup inspired style is one I've kept on my "To-Shoot" list for a long while now.  It had become one of those things where the longer I put it off, the higher the expectations I have, which of course, makes me more afraid of not meeting those rising expectations, and then putting it off even longer.  So here goes my attempt to to break the vicious cycle.

Rocky & Tomo (and Animals Inside Out)

I'd like to introduce the latest boy in my life -- a handsome devil named Rocky.

"Who me?"
Because there clearly aren't enough cat pictures on the internet already.

The Quebec Side

Four months into 2015 seems like a good time for a pulse check on my new year's resolutions.
...On second thought, let's just focus on the stuff I managed to keep doing.

An extra benefit of exploring Ottawa is getting to visit the nearby places on the Quebec side.  I only took advantage of the proximity to Montreal once last year, and made a point of visiting more often this year.  I'm kind of lumping 3 trips to Quebec into one post due to photo-deficiency.  I don't know what it is exactly, maybe the depressing amount snow still falling late April, maybe feeling creatively constipated, but I haven't produced as many photos I'm satisfied with.  Even the ones in this post are more obligatory rather than ones I'm really happy with, with the exception of these two dog ones, of course.

such a pretty girl!

Victorian Bowler Hat

With the weather the way it is, I thought I had to wait at least until April (maybe even May if April is constantly rainy) to be able to do photoshoots.

But a number of things sort of just lined up together; the outfit that I happened to wear home from work, the too-big hat my mom had ordered online, and the weekend I chose to spend in Kingston.

I spotted the hat hanging on a coat rack in my mom's room.  When I asked her about it, she said it didn't fit too well so she hadn't really worn it.  Knowing my head is a little bigger than hers, I tried it on, and was instantly transported back in time.

With all the class of a Victorian gentleman, I swaggered my way downstairs and took up my rightful place on the throne- I mean, chair.

I swear I had this picture in my head long before this was taken -- it never ceases to make me so deliriously happy than to see on the camera what I've only seen before in my imagination.

Canadian Museum of Nature

January was a strong start to my new year's resolutions; a week after visiting the art gallery, I went to the Canadian Museum of Nature with John and his little brother.

my favourite 7 year-old
Can you believe Jaden is only seven?  He is almost as tall as me!  John is bracing himself for the eventual day when he'll be the shorter one of the pair.

National Gallery of Canada

As part of one of my 2015 new year's resolutions, I visited the National Gallery of Canada.
John had come to visit and mentioned that the gallery as well as other museums in Ottawa were free on Thursdays after 5pm.

I was especially excited once I heard they had coat check, as it's been so dreadfully cold lately, I haven't been able to dress nicely without having to cover it up with many many layers.

Staring seriously at some serious art
I was pretty torn between wanting photos of my outfit as well as hogging the camera to capture all my favourite pieces of art.
